Father's Day: At Home with Co-founder Scott

With Father’s Day fast approaching, we thought now was the perfect opportunity to get to know Urban Rituelle’s Co-Founder and Managing Director Scott Kelly. We chat to this busy Dad of two daughters and how he balances the juggle of running a business alongside family life (while fitting in some time for a surf and outdoor adventures).

Tell us a bit about yourself and your family?

I am a calm, easy going, outdoorsy, adventurer guy. I love a challenge and running a business has certainly offered us that over the past 22 years. I am grateful to work alongside my bestie, travel partner and wife Leanne. We have two beautiful daughters aged 15 and 17, who are both super creative, fun and cool young adults.

What is your daily morning routine? 

I’m up early to meditate, then I wake the girls to get ready for school. Followed by either a surf or the gym, then coffee and a juice to fuel me for a busy day ahead at the office.

Do you have any tips for balancing running a business with family life?

It was important for Leanne and I to champion separate roles in the business for the day to day. The big decisions we workshop really well together and don’t bring egos to the meeting. We have learnt not to procrastinate in order to make the correct decision quicker, which saves money, time and reduces stress. And I keep work and family separate – no business meetings while cooking dinner at home.

How has fatherhood changed you?

Being a dad has given me a huge sense of purpose and responsibility. I didn’t realise at the time that this was my biggest responsibility and I love every moment

What is one piece of advice you would give for new Dads?

Enjoy every moment and don’t sweat the small stuff. If your child wants to wear the same favourite dress every day for weeks, then just buy more of the same dress!

Your favourite activity to do with the family?

Travel and adventure.


Tell us what your ultimate Father's Day would look like?

Up early in the morning hitting the beach for a surf, then brekky and hopefully a bush walk or bike ride in the afternoon.

What are your go-to Urban Rituelle products?
