The Story Behind Our Brand Name

Ever wondered why we spell ritual as "rituelle" in our name. This is a question we have been asked A LOT lately, so I thought I would share the story behind how our name came to be!

When Scott & I came up with the name Urban Rituelle for our business, I was studying Japanese ceramics and the ‘ritual of making’ at university. The Japanese culture places a very big importance on rituals and ceremonies, and this fascinated me at the time (it still does!). Little things like lighting a candle, enjoying a hot cup of tea, relaxing in a nice warm bubble bath….enjoying slow moments and life’s simple pleasures.  I just loved the idea of how rituals shape our everyday life & celebrating the simple things you experience in your everyday.

We were going to call our business Ritual, but it seemed too obvious, not tricky or fancy enough. The word Rituelle is actually the French spelling of Ritual. I liked the way the word Rituelle looked. I liked the double ‘ll’

So Rituelle was the name we came to love. 

As we lived in Newtown at the time, right in the heart of Sydney, we called our business ‘Urban Rituelle.’
